All of the club's coaches, staff and volunteers take player wellbeing very seriously. The information below is shared to help players, and the adults in their life, to understand more about:

Concussion

The excellent concussion awareness card provides a good overview of the signs, symptoms and treatment. Look out for flyers and posters in the club house, or ask any of the coaches.

England rugby provides excellent concussion awareness e-learning, open to anyone who is interested in learning more about concussion

Players age 14 & updwards can take a tested e-learning through their GMS account; this qualification will appear on their GMS record

Annual re-certification in headcase awareness is a requirement for all coaches and first aiders.

Safe Return to Rugby

In a contact sport, injury is inevitable. Training and matches are organised around given players ample time to recover, and to build different strengths and skills.

In the M&J ages children are often playing school rugby, and other winter sports. Their wellbeing, and overall match load, is a shared responsibility amongst the grown ups in their lives.

In the unfortunate event of concussion, the club will follow the guidance set out in the Headcase awareness resources. This safe return is not open to negitation.

Warming up before training & matches

WRUFC follows England Rugby's Activate guidance, which is proven to play a significant role in minimising player injury, as well as promoting recovery between training sessions and matches.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

WRUFC is developing its association with LooseHeadz, who are working hard across the rugby world to takle the stigma of mental health in the sport

Mini & Junior Players using Medical Devices

Rugby is a regulated sport, and part of that regulation is to protect player welfare during training and matches. For those children who use a medical device, it is VITALLY IMPORTANT that the grown ups declare this information when you affiliate each year.

You must also hand the medical device to the coach at the start of each match / training session (or you may leave it in your training bag as long as the Coach knows where the bag, and device, are located).

For your own wellbeing, if you don't have your device, you will not be allowed to join the training session.

If you want to discuss any aspect of player welfare, please reach out to any of the club's officers. Contact information is on the ABOUT tab
